Why Everyone Needs An Advocate
Most people don’t think about needing an advocate until life forces them to. I certainly didn’t, until the birth of my son.
What should have been one of the happiest moments of my life quickly became a terrifying crisis. Complications left me Isolated in quarantine and fighting for my life, I couldn't hold my newborn or comfort my family. In the midst of that raw fear, my loved ones were suddenly forced to navigate a complex, confusing healthcare system. It was completely overwhelming.
That experience taught me an unforgettable lesson: when you are in the middle of a crisis, you simply do not have the emotional or physical capacity to fight complex systems.
Advocacy isn't about someone making decisions for you. It's about having someone stand beside you to ask the right questions, gather information, handle the background noise, and create clarity out of chaos. Over the years, I have helped families navigate everything from hospice care to complex disability applications, and the greatest gift advocacy brings is always the same: confidence and peace of mind.
The Leaders Who Saw Potential Before I Did
I find myself looking back at the incredible people who made those achievements possible. Two remarkable women, Kim Farrell and Cheri Mikita, changed the trajectory of my life because they saw potential in me before I fully saw it in myself.
Their lasting influence is woven into the very fabric of Piece by Piece Guidance. At its heart, our mission exists for the exact same reason great mentors do: to help people find a clear path forward when things feel overwhelming, and to help them discover a strength within themselves they didn't know they had.
Giving People Power During the Least Powerful Times of Their Lives
One unexpected phone call, a sudden diagnosis, or a difficult conversation can change the trajectory of your life in an instant. Suddenly, you are thrust into a whirlwind of complex paperwork, medical jargon, and major decisions—all while processing intense emotions.
In these moments, feeling powerless isn't a sign of weakness; it’s the natural result of being completely overwhelmed.
At Piece by Piece Guidance, we believe in giving people power during the least powerful times of their lives. Not power over the circumstances, but the power that comes from preparation, knowledge, and knowing you aren't walking this path alone.
Why I Chose the Name Piece by Piece Guidance
There are specific moments when the trajectory of your life changes forever. For me, that moment came while helping my brother navigate his wife’s terminal illness.
In the midst of overwhelming news, healthcare logistics, and endless paperwork, I realized something vital: families facing devastating transitions shouldn't have to wade through chaos alone. They need a roadmap. They need someone to help them understand what comes next—without taking away hope.
By documenting every step of that journey, I found a repeatable process to bridge the gap that traditional providers often miss. That blueprint became Piece by Piece Guidance.
